The formation of a progressive,non-aligned union for public service workers was conceptualized by the workers who decided to distance themselves ,their membership from public sector unions who were in alliance with political parties in governance. These worker leaders were propelled by the need to have a clear identity as workers and by the clarity provided for by the historical mission of a trade union. The need to better the working conditions of public service workers in order to provide job security and a living wage without political interference and its pollution.

The public service workers union envisaged must recruit all workers in the public service and unite them to ensure achievements in central bargaining. This public service union must ensure that it accelerates redress and imbalances in the workplace whilst in persuit of better lives for the public service workers and pushing back the frontiers of poverty.Furthermore the union should ensure that it brings back the dignity to the so undermined, low paid and low moraled public service worker.

The union aims at defending the rights of workers without compromise whilst ensuring that there is definite equity and redress within the working place, where workers are appreciated on merit and skill acquired. The union will fight all forms of discrimination and imbalances. The union will ensure accelerated transformation within the workplace without compromise. Also ensuring that there is provisioning of adequate resources to achieve efficient, prompt and effective service delivery.

As public service workers we see the need for a single non-aligned and independent public service union wich must not be subjected to political interference and its pollution.

We have decided to organise all workers who are employed in the public service,Agencies of goverment,Higher and Further education and training institutions and Local goverment.

The union has identified the need to accelerate transformation within the workplace, redress of imbalances created by preferential treatment, discrimination and favouritism due to political allegiance
